My kids have been playing “military” a lot lately. It is 100% because my husband is currently addicted to the game Battlefield 1 and has been playing it most nights before we go to bed. So, of course, the kids have taken to throwing random things and yelling “Grenade!” which makes me mad because it’s usually a hard toy that could hurt someone or break something. So in my quest to save the house, I found these adorable knit grenades.
I usually get frustrated with toys easily because of all the fiddly bits but this only has three pieces to knit and I was able to finish one during a football game…however long that is. It’s a quick knit and my boys love it. The best part is that the pin comes out like a real grenade.
I was able to make 3 grenades out of scrap yarn. Another win for knitting down the random stash! If you’re interested in knitting your own grenade the pattern can be found here it’s also free which is another bonus.
The pattern does call for a straw for the pin and a sewing machine for the grenade handle. I am sure you could hand stitch if you didn’t have a sewing machine available and it would work out fine. I was thinking of using wooden dowels in my next batch of grenades to make them more durable but I hope this batch last for a long time because I am all out of this green now and it was the perfect color green.
